While involved in major cultural issues, the eyes of a little boy matter to us. This is 6-year-old Joshua Ochaaki. Joshua was born with a condition known as strabismus, where a lack of muscle coordination keeps the eyes from being properly aligned and thus affects vision. As we noticed Joshua, we thought he might have a learning disability as he would throw his hands up in front of his face when people were present. In reality, this little guy just felt ashamed and wanted to hide his face. It turned out Joshua’s siblings and grandfather also suffered from this eye condition. Typically these children are kept out of school as the culture feels it would be a waste of time to try and educate them. But Joshua is a sweet little boy who wants to learn. And his condition is fixable. Two surgeries later and thanks to your involvement, it’s likely no one will be able to tell Joshua ever faced this. And Joshua will have hope and a bright future ahead of him.
