Network Beyond has been busy these last several months! Read more to learn what we've been up to in 2017.
ITI MULTIPLIES IN AFRICA
Upon graduating from the International Training Institute (ITI), Anthony wanted to share what he learned with other African leaders. He traveled to the DRC (Congo) to begin training 56 pastors and leaders. During the training, rebels attacked the area where the school was held. For three days, the teaching team was under siege. Finally they were rescued … but the story doesn't end there.
Despite objections from family and friends, Anthony and the team returned to Congo. He said, “This was in our hearts. Those are our brothers in Congo, and if we die taking Christ to them, it will be gain to us.”
On July 28, 2017, sixty-three leaders graduated from the ITI in Congo, a training totally organized, led, and taught by Africans for Africans! The multiplication continues. Anthony relates, “Many pastors [in Congo] are using the training material and translating it to their local languages in order to train others.
Anthony has taught the ITI in Kenya, Uganda, Burundi, Congo, Egypt, and soon in Zambia. For us at Network Beyond, it is a dream come true, a prayer answered, and reason for joy.
persecution in the middle east
There is a team of Syrians working in dangerous settings to share the love and message of Jesus with their countrymen. Over the last several months, several have narrowly escaped harm. Our national leader just wrote, “Bad people are watching us all the time. They came to my home last night when I was out, leaving a white rose on my doorstep. Anyway, God is good and in control … please pray.” One of our leaders in Damascus writes, “On Tuesday morning, just before my time with the Lord, an explosion occurred outside my house. A small fragment entered the house, passed over my neck, leaving a sign on my neck. It was so hot. Jesus, thank you for your constant protection of us, as we serve you from all our heart.” We support these friends, both financially and with our prayers. Even in the midst of this persecution, God has worked. They are excited about a new church ready to launch and request our prayers as the work begins.
partners in India making a difference
We have great respect for our friends at New Generation Trust (NGT) in India. Few work so tirelessly or so effectively among those broken by abuse and caught in the evil of trafficking. One of their ministries occurs in an area of the city noted for its poverty and violence. Many come to a clinic NGT staffs.
In addition to the clinical work, Friday nights are a time when people are invited to hear messages of hope, found in the love of God. One fourteen-year-old attended, her life marked by years of rejection and abuse. The process of transformation has begun, providing needed emotional and spiritual healing.
Pray for this young girl and many like her … for a needed nurse for the clinic, … for God to strengthen this new community … and for wisdom in caring for many Burmese refugees entering the region from Myanmar.
iti travels to remote Peru
In 2006, a team from the U.S. joined hands with our South American brothers and sisters. The location was remote, deep into the interior of Peru where roads end and vast jungle regions sprawl across the Amazon basin. Eleven years prior, medical, intercessory, sports, and church planting teams came to Pucallpa to both share and live out God’s good news of hope with hundreds. Many responded, and relationships continued over the years.
This year, Peruvian International Training Institute (ITI) teachers began the training with this new generation of Christian leaders. Eighty leaders attended to learn biblical teaching on subjects like relationships, discipleship, leadership, and Old and New Testament. These leaders represent the hope of this beautiful region.
increased global impact
Recently the Network Beyond Board met to pray and seek God’s direction for the future. We desire to move forward with what we feel are God-given opportunities. We’re both excited and challenged. As of July 1 of this year, we’ve been able to do more ministry investment in six months than in any previous year of our history. Additional requests to train refugees in Europe have come, along with expansion in Latin America and Asia. We will continue as God provides resources.
